설립목적 | Original Goals

캔사스시티 한국학교는 한국어와 한국문화 교육을 통해 학생들이 자신의 문화적 뿌리와 정체성을 이해하고, 한국과 미국 사회를 이어가는 균형 잡힌 인재로 성장하도록 돕기 위해 설립되었습니다.

1. 한국어 교육을 통해 한국에 대한 이해와 자긍심을 키웁니다.
2. 한국의 역사, 문화, 전통을 올바르게 배우고 이해하도록 돕습니다.
3. 한글과 한국의 문화유산을 다음 세대에 계승합니다.
4. 한국어와 영어를 함께 발전시켜 다문화 환경에서 자신감 있게 성장하도록 돕습니다.

Original Goals

1. To help students develop understanding, pride, and appreciation for Korea through Korean language education.
2. To help students learn and understand Korean history, culture, and traditions in a meaningful way.
3. To preserve Hangeul and the rich cultural heritage of Korea for future generations.
4. To help students grow with confidence in a multicultural environment by developing both Korean and English.

설립배경 | Background

캔사스시티 한국학교는 1980년, 캔사스시티 지역 한인들이 2세들에게 한국어와 한국문화를 가르치기 위해 뜻을 모아 설립하였습니다.

고(故) 이생희 박사님이 초대 이사장과 교장을 맡아 학교의 기초를 세웠으며, 이후 비영리 교육기관으로서 지역사회의 어린이와 청소년, 그리고 한국어를 배우고자 하는 성인들에게 한국어와 한국문화를 교육해 왔습니다.

학교는 설립자의 교육 정신을 이어가기 위해 생희장학기금을 운영하며 학생들의 학습과 성장을 지속적으로 지원하고 있습니다.

Founded in 1980 by members of the Korean community in the Greater Kansas City area, the Institute began with a shared commitment to pass Korean language and culture to the next generation. The late Dr. Saeng-Hee Lee served as the founding Board Chair and Principal.

Today, the school continues that educational vision while welcoming children, youth, and adults from diverse backgrounds who wish to learn Korean language and culture.
